"Our new FX set is an integral part of helping us explain the news. Plus, visually, it is consistently interesting, but not overpowering." — Bob Morford News Director, 2003
WCPO-TV's unique set gives the station two main anchor sets, a working weather center and a standup area.
The first anchor desk includes a vibrant background and two large-screen monitors for display OTS graphics.
The second desk places the anchors in front of a rear projection screen with a theatrically-lit background on either side. These unique curved walls include specialty lighting that provides a subtle moving background. The area doubles as a set for the station's late newscast and a morning chat show. The platform's modular design allows talent to be placed at different distances from the set wall, creating unique shots and depth for each show.
The set's large weather center gives forecasters plenty of practical workspace and also includes a presentation pod equipped with computer workstations. A flexible standup location can be used for traffic, technology and other franchises.
On a pratical side, specially-designed routers placed throughout the set allow talent to view various video feeds without intervention from the control room.
