"FX listened to what we needed and came back with a design that was even better than what we had envisioned. The new set has a wide range of shots we can choose from, and the FX lighting crew has made our talent look spectacular." — Suzanne Grethen, Creative Services Director
The FX Group-designed set for WESH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Orlando, Fla. gives the station maximum flexibity for presenting the news.
The sleek, vibrant set, which won a 2006 BDA Award, is stocked with state-of-the-art technology, including two rear projection screens, DLP and flat panel displays.
The main anchor area, situated at the center of the studio, provides plenty of cross-shooting options to the nearby standup, weather and traffic areas — all of which are 16:9-ready and lit by our team of experts.
The rear projection screen behind the anchors allows WESH-TV to utilize unique backgrounds for different newscasts and segments, while the two monitor walls flanking it provide a high-tech, "newsy" feel that gives a subtle yet active background behind anchors.
The large NBC Weather Plus and traffic center includes integrated workstations and multiple presentation locations, each wired with forecasting computers that allow meteorologists to change forecasts and on-set displays while on the air. In addition, a flash cam position behind the set is wired for 24-hour, standalone cut-ins on the the Weather Plus channel.
